coach conor Q&A
I’m Conor, I’ll be 26 next week. I have been coaching for 10 years now which began with gymnastics coaching and evolved into strength & conditioning + personal training from 2018/2019.
What were you doing before you started at Rocky Fitness?
I was coaching gymnastics with a mixture of age groups including adult gymnastics + fitness classes. I used to coach some of the outdoor bootcamps with Rocky before Covid too.
What’s your role within Rocky Fitness?
I am head of programming and have been appointed head of tech by some people when it comes to the screens and apps 😂
What inspired you to become a coach?
I have always had a passion for progress. Both for myself and for others. I wanted to inspire others and show them what they are truly capable of through fitness. Hard work will always pay off once you’re consistent. All I have ever done is coach and I really can’t imagine doing anything else!
What’s your favourite part about being a coach?
Showing members what they are capable of and helping them become the strongest version of themselves.
What’s your least favourite part about being a coach?
Nothing – I love every part of it!
What piece of advice are you always repeating to members?
You should go heavier 👀
What’s one common fitness myth you wish more people understood?
That carbs cause weight gain or that they are bad. We need carbs for energy and if we want our best performance in the gym.
Higher intensity sessions with more conditioning naturally require more carbohydrates so it’s important to prioritise this in the last meal before you train or have an easy snack beforehand.
You’ll often see me eating a squares bar or a handful of jellies before I train and this is why! Plus they’re tasty🤷🏻♂️
What’s your proudest moment within Rocky Fitness?
I don’t have one moment in particular, but I am very proud to be part of such an amazing team and to be given so many opportunities to grow and progress as a coach here over the last 5 years.
coach conor PERSONAL LIFE
What are you currently training towards?
I’m currently focused on building up my overall strength and fitness base while maintaining the high intensity conditioning. Myself and Rocky have ATHX, a fitness competition testing strength, endurance and conditioning in the RDS at the end of May.
We made it to the pro finals in Birmingham in December and the biggest differentiator between us and the competition was strength.
On March 21st we have a lot of members and coaches taking part in Battle Cancer in the RDS so I am staying sharp for that too.
Favourite Rocky Fitness Class?
The majority of our classes are Small Group Training where the focus is on strength and there is lots of time to get around, chat and coach each member which I love. Friday Fusion is up there as we can get some heavy lifting done and move into whatever ‘fun’ I have planned for the other 20 mins of the session. 🔥
Favourite & least favourite exercise?
Favourite : Clean & Jerk
Least Favourite : Probably Strict Press
Favourite workout music?
I enjoy training to all types of music. It just depends on the type of session and my mood! Anywhere from Rihanna to Fred Again to 50 Cent
When you’re not coaching, how do you spend your time?
Chill out or meet up with friends
Favourite cheat foods?
Pizza all day
Give us a fun fact about you.
I am fluent in Irish – chuaigh mé go bunscoil lán Ghaeilge ach táim beagáin rusty
Finish the sentence: I love it when our members… ask questions
Finish the sentence: I hate it when our members… leave me hanging for a knuckle touch 🙋🏻♂️
